Workshop: "Talking to your child about an autism diagnosis".

  • White Plains Public Library, Auditorium – 2nd Floor 100 Martine Avenue White Plains, NY, 10601 United States (map)

🌈 April is Autism Acceptance Month 🌈

I wanted to share this upcoming event hosted by the White Plains Public Library and NewYork-Presbyterian, because I believe it addresses a challenge many families face: how to talk to your child about their autism diagnosis.

In my work as a special education consultant and attorney, I've seen time and again how deeply parents care—but also how overwhelmed they can feel when it comes to having this conversation. It’s not about a lack of love, but about not knowing how to begin, or how to say the words in a way that feels right, respectful, and affirming.

This event offers guidance from professionals, as well as wisdom from parents and self-advocates who’ve been there. It’s open to families with children of any age who have not yet disclosed the diagnosis to their child. I truly believe it could be a valuable step toward clarity, connection, and confidence.

📅 Monday, April 21 @ 6:30 PM
📍 White Plains Public Library, Auditorium – 2nd Floor
📧 Email: community@nyp.org to register (walk-ins welcome!)

Please feel free to share with any families who might benefit. 💙
